Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplant Unit
University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplant Unit
15,486 Square Feet Expansion/Remodeling
The Unit was part of a six year initiative of the Hospital to update their Eighteen Inpatient units. The goal was to improve the quality of care for their patients, families and caregivers by providing an environment of warmth and compassion.
This design utilized a new concept where the patient remains in the same room as their care progresses from general care to ICU level. Between every room is a nurses area with glass for observation during charting.
The Patient rooms wrap around a central Hub consisting of the Pharmacy, MD Charting Area, and HUC Station; an open environment is maintained with visible access to the adjacent room. Nurse and MD’s share a central conference and break area to further develop team work and support areas are decentralized throughout the unit to provide the best and efficeint care for each patient.
The project design was a collaboration between the UW Hospital’s Interior Architect and Bouril Design Studio.
