Small Projects
Since our founding in 1988, we have been involved in projects of many shapes and sizes including numerous small ones including additions, remodels and new homes. The ability to find creative & cost-effective design solutions for small projects is the true test of an architect’s abilities.
Unfortunately there seems to be a common misconception among some people that architects are only for large homes or expensive budgets. We couldn’t disagree more! Although it makes perfect sense to involve an architect on a large complex residential design project, the importance of design is just as critical if not more so, on a small design project. When you are about to invest thousands of dollars in a home, it only makes good sense to hire a professional to help guide & assist you in the planning process & to insure that your money is being spent wisely.
We have found that for most people, the goals for small projects are not that much different than those for large projects. Projects of small scales or limited budgets require the same degree if not an even greater level of design intensity to arrive at a design solution because of the more limited resources and smaller scale. While an efficiently designed layout may require more planning time and a greater investment on the front end, it may actually save time and money during bidding, construction and in long-term energy and maintenance costs. A highly refined design solution is not only more efficient in it’s use of space and materials, it ultimately should be more inspiring to live within.
We have always maintained that well-conceived design solutions and attention to detail can be incorporated into projects of any size or budget. Our involvement in small projects over the years has been extensive and includes a wide variety of design including multi-phase master planning, basement, bath & kitchen remodels, adding dormers, opening up ceilings, adding sunrooms, free-standing garage/workshops, and small seasonal & retirement homes.
